Back to Basics: An Introduction to Splinting the Hand

This two day introductory course is aimed at developing skill and confidence in splinting common hand conditions. Our practical workshop will provide the necessary guidance in fabricating a variety of static splints, focusing on enhancing both knowledge and clinical reasoning in treating the hand.

Course Objectives

• Revising anatomical considerations for splinting
• Understanding important splinting principles and precautions
• Discussing how biomechanics of the hand is applied in splint fabrication
• Introducing splinting materials and its properties
• Following a client centered splint fabrication process
• Build knowledge on common hand conditions and how to splint them
• Practical experience on the design and fabrication of 16 static splints

Detailed course notes will be provided.

Each session will be followed with a practical lab session whereby therapists will have hands on experience fabricating splints. CPD points have been applied for and will be awarded on completion of the 2 full days.
